Get to Know

Dr. Shah

Dr. Shah has been a periodontist since 2018 and prides himself on being gentle and caring about his patients' comfort. He is detailed and thorough in his explanations of diagnosis and treatment, and loves to provide helpful and practical suggestions for ongoing oral hygiene.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Periodontist?

Gum health is often overlooked by patients and dentists alike, and that’s a main reason Dr. Shah wanted to become a periodontist.  Because many patients are better about caring for their teeth than caring for their gums, the perio niche is a unique place to educate patients on the oral microbiome and its relationship to one’s overall health. As a periodontist at Peak Vision Dental, his specialties are gum surgery, soft tissue grafts, bone grafts, tooth extractions, and dental implants.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Shah is all about spending time with his family and friends (many of whom are also in dental and other medical fields) and exercising and fitness.  If he didn’t become a periodontist, he would have been an environmental scientist, biologist, or clinical researcher - all areas he enjoys learning about in his spare time.

I thought I should write a review of Dr. Kanter. I followed him over from Elevate Dental in November 2023 and am very pleased with his work. Dr. Kanter treated me with 3 dental implants at the same time. His high-tech equipment created permanent teeth that work and fit perfectly.

Now that Dr. Kanter is the new owner of, “Peak Vision Dental” I am transferring to his new office. I feel confident seeing the same Dentist with each visit. He is a very knowledgeable experienced Dentist, and I am very happy to find him!

Best dental office in the IE that I've experienced. Dr. Kanter is very kind, patient and gentle with all procedures he performs. Danielle and Casey are both wonderful hygienists they both take their time cleaning my teeth and teaching me new techniques. Krystal and the front office staff are warm and friendly, they do an amazing job with your insurance company to get the maximum benefit possible. I would 100% recommend Peak Vision Dental to all my family and friends!

My first visit at Peak Vision Dental. Dr. Kanter and Max did a very detailed dental exam after X-rays were taken. Dr. addressed some of my issues with TMJ/Jaw soreness and gave me a variety of treatment options to help. The highlight of my visit was the 3D scanner that was used to start the process of my ortho aligners

The hygienist, Danielle is wonderful. I love getting my teeth cleaned by her. She is so gentle, kind and professional. I appreciate the upgraded equipment that Dr. Kanter is bringing to the office, like the X-Ray gun that makes getting them so much more comfortable than the traditional way. They also have digitally printed same-day crowns, which make life so much more convenient so I don't have to take multiple days off work for my dental procedures. This office truly cares about their patients.

Fantastic experience! My smile is extremely important to me just as much as a Dentist with a phenomenal, honest and caring approach - which I receive from Dr. Kanter and his staff. Danielle made me smile so big with how thorough she was. It was time for cleaning and an exam. Exams are so important too! I have history of crowns and dental fills. They showed me my smile on the screen and we found a crack that I had no idea about. It made me feel like I made a great choice seeing Peak Vision Dental.

We are visiting the area from out of state. My husband had a dental emergency This practice was able to fit him in the same day! Almost immediately. The receptionist and dental assistance were very friendly and helpful. Putting us at ease. Dr. Matt Kanter was very professional and personable as well. He provided excellent service and advice. If we lived anywhere nearby we would both certainly hope to become full time patients of Dr Kanter.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of sedation do you offer?

At Peak Vision Dental, we offer several sedation options, including nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedatives, and IV sedation. Dr. Kanter will recommend the best approach based on the complexity of your dental needs and your level of anxiety.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Yes, sedation dentistry is considered a safe and effective way to manage dental anxiety and discomfort. Our dental team in Murrieta is highly trained in the administration of sedatives and will closely monitor you throughout the process for your safety and comfort.

How long does the sedation last?

The duration of the sedative effect depends on the specific medication used and the dosage. Nitrous oxide, for example, wears off quickly, allowing you to resume your normal activities soon after your appointment. Oral sedatives and IV sedation may have longer-lasting effects, so we'll provide you with detailed instructions for your recovery.

Am I a candidate for sedation dentistry?

Most patients with dental anxiety or a low pain threshold are good candidates for sedation dentistry. However, certain medical conditions or medications may affect your eligibility. Dr. Kanter will thoroughly evaluate your situation and overall health to determine the safest, most appropriate sedation option for you.

What is sedation dentistry and how does it work?

Sedation dentistry refers to the use of medications to help patients relax during dental procedures. It's a technique that ensures a stress-free and comfortable experience, especially for those who experience anxiety or fear when visiting the dentist. The primary goal of sedation dentistry is to alleviate anxiety and make dental treatments more accessible and pleasant.

Depending on the level of sedation required, patients can remain conscious and responsive, or in a more profound state of relaxation where they fall asleep and might not recall the procedure. Dr. Matthew Kanter, a trusted name in Murrieta, CA, offers a range of sedation options tailored to meet individual needs and ensure a serene dental visit.

What is nitrous oxide, and how is it used in sedation dentistry?

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, is a mild sedative used in sedation dentistry to help patients relax during dental procedures. It is inhaled through a small mask placed over the nose, allowing patients to breathe in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen. This type of sedation is ideal for those who experience mild anxiety or discomfort at the dentist's office.

Nitrous oxide takes effect quickly, creating a sense of euphoria and relaxation while still allowing the patient to remain awake and responsive. One of the biggest benefits of nitrous oxide is that its effects wear off swiftly. This allows patients to drive themselves home and resume their daily activities shortly after the procedure. Dr. Matthew Kanter ensures that each patient receives a personalized dosage to maximize comfort and safety.

What are oral sedatives, and who can benefit from them?

Oral sedatives are medications taken by mouth to help patients achieve a deeper state of relaxation during dental procedures. They are typically prescribed to be taken before the appointment, providing a calming effect that can significantly reduce anxiety. Oral sedatives are beneficial for patients who experience moderate to severe dental anxiety or have a low pain threshold.

The sedatives work by depressing the central nervous system, allowing patients to feel at ease and less aware of the procedure taking place. While patients may remain awake, they often feel drowsy and may not remember much of the appointment afterward. Dr. Matthew Kanter carefully assesses each patient's medical history and anxiety levels to determine the appropriate type and dosage of oral sedatives, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience.

How does IV sedation differ from other forms of sedation in dentistry?

IV sedation, or intravenous sedation, is a more profound form of sedation used in dentistry for patients who require a higher level of relaxation. Unlike nitrous oxide and oral sedatives, IV sedation involves administering sedative medications directly into the bloodstream through a vein, typically in the arm. This method allows for a quick onset of sedation and enables the dentist to adjust the level of sedation throughout the procedure.

IV sedation is ideal for patients with severe dental anxiety, those undergoing lengthy or complex procedures, or individuals who have difficulty getting numb with local anesthetics alone. Under IV sedation, patients are in a deeply relaxed state and may not remember the procedure afterward. Dr. Matthew Kanter and our team are highly trained in administering IV sedation, which ensures patient safety and comfort throughout every visit to our office.
